    That looks like a great year for your 12th grader. I think you and your son may really like Oak Meadow, while I'm not familiar with the two courses you chose, my daughter took several of their courses and really enjoyed them. They have very interesting homework assignments and always include extra ideas to pursue further learning. Those two courses in particular look very good and I look forward to your review of them later in the year. The readings selections look good too, I also bought Red Sails to Capri for my daughter after seeing Jenny (from TGATB) give it a great review in her video. Thanks for sharing!

    I was really impressed with it at first look, my grade 10 daughter found it a little frustrating to try to find answers for the questions in the book as there was a lot of detailed information. It was our first apología course so don't know if it's typically more advanced. My daughter says it would be good for maybe someone interested in a medical field career

    You're lucky if you can get your kiddos to read all those books. My son likes to read, but he wouldn't be pleased if I presented him with that many books. For me though, the more books the better! Have you used The good and beautiful prior to high school for language arts? I've looked into it, since its free, but haven't gone for it. I tried the art of argument with my daughter that was in grade 8 this past year and it was a struggle, we didn't get far, but she really needs to be motivated or dragged along for somethings so I gave up. She did enjoy the fallacy detective a previous year. My daughter in grade 10 did the Argument builder and didn't mind it at all, she is a self motivator so stuck with it...the problem was the example reading excerpts were very advanced, dry, and often old language so we skipped those and just discussed ourselves to make sure she understood what the topic was.

    This was my first “serious” history book written by a woman- _Vive la difference!_ You’re right, it is a big book! However, Susan balances that with such wit in her turn of phrase, interesting personal observations and asides-commentaries which may have stirred up trouble in the times she covers-that I was fascinated throughout. I almost had the feeling that my own mother was reading to me, and, in fact, her own son was using this book for a history course in school. Whether she is pointing out some of the problems with hereditary rule, or relating the unexpectable twists of fate which decided battles and wars (which I think she feels could largely have been avoided had the characters possessed a more-developed sense of loyalty and charity), or as she wonders how a given king’s concubines might have felt about some issue or another (something most male authors wouldn’t address, if they had ever even thought of it), she voices her unique perspective with unfailing grace and charm. Since she covers over 11,000 years (technically, with greater detail the closer she gets to our present age), she has to keep it succinct, so it’s a bit of a skim. But when she feels it’s important, she downshifts and examines the details more closely. For instance, her take on the “ambitious” Gilgamesh is just what I think a mother would want her little boys to know, no matter what age they are.

I think we as a family have almost completed each of their unit studies in the last few years, and we have all absolutely enjoyed each one! This year we hope to do Birds, Invertabrates, Wind and Weather, and the Ecosystems units! I love how they now have the extensions for grades 7-8 for our older students to still join in the family study, and then go off and do their extension. Fellow TGTB Homeschooling Mama here! I got to this video from your Epson EcoTank review you posted a year ago. It sounded like the EcoTank is your go to printer regardless of that issue. My big question is what happens if moisture gets on your prints? Does the ink run or smear? I've alway bought the course books but one of my kiddos has requested I print theirs this next year for multiple sensory reasons. I currently have a laser printer but the coloring struggles has me looking at the EcoTank since it's the most consistent one recommended by homeschoolers. However, said kiddo also considers all of their printed items to be Gollum level PRECIOUS and so I wonder if a sweaty/freshly washed palm coming to write on the page, a drop of water from a water bottle pressure release spray, or heaven forbid the baby dribble on it would ruin the printing? 😅 I'm picturing a water color style mess and the potential end of their world, but maybe you can provide some experienced insight for me? 😇 Also, since you're familiar printing the curriculum you might be able to answer this other question. We have found that when we print pages from the Simply Good and Beautiful Math 2 course that have blue boxes, or like the blueprint assignment page, having to erase directly on the color not only erases the pencil lead but it also takes off the color. Have you experienced that being or not being the case with EcoTank prints? Thanks 🙏❤

    • @OneMamaToAnother
      @OneMamaToAnother Місяць тому

      The only time I I’ve had the ink spread is when water is spilled on it. Other than that, the every day use hasn’t affected it at all. I do suggest giving it a few seconds to dry before touching it when printing for good measure but I print multiple pages and they don’t smear as they pile up. You may want to use a heavier weight paper as well for heavily coloured pages. I don’t believe the ink can be erased off but I’ve never come up against that.

    I had one that lasted about 6-7 years with snow, rain, and so on. I ended up taking the parts that were still good to make a kiwi trellis 🙂 I've never heard of that brand though. I'll consider it if kids want to have one again in the future 🙂

      It’s really great! It forgot to mention because it doesn’t have springs it’s silent too!

    I have to say that this is a review, most people review items they just bought. Never talk about all the problems that could happen. Thank you lady.

    I read The Time traveler's wife years ago. My oldest sister is obsessed with time travel and suggested it. I didn't love it quite as much but I did like it. Right now I'm listening to a book called sachiko caren stelson. Is the biography of a little girl who lived through the bombing of nagasaki.

    I was really surprised by The Phantom Tollbooth - we ended up liking it, but it was NOTHING that I thought it was. LOL.

    Thank you for the video. I love hearing book reviews! I've had The Trumpet of the Swan on my shelf for years, but have never read it! The author of it also wrote Stuart Little, which I remember best from the charming movie. My grown daughter used to watch Heidi on VHS (the version with Shirley Temple, which is so sweet!). I have the book as well...perhaps I will read it this summer. My son is 16, so he may not be as interested (although we did read Pollyanna this year together, and we both enjoyed it).

      Pollyanna is another book I have heard lots about but never read. I need to get on that!
